Freelance Science Communicator

Working for myself has provided great flexibility and allowed me to work with a range of interesting clients, including the Chief Scientist of Western Australia. I even met Michael Palin (pictured) whilst working at a conference in London.

For my clients I develop means to communicate a science message to a specific audience. This may involve writing articles for websites, developing media releases, assisting with presentations for major events or developing print media such as posters.

The science communication studies at UWA taught me the importance of having a clearly defined purpose to any type of communication, and to always remain focused on the target audience. Many of the skills I learnt during the course were extremely practical and applicable to what my clients need, such as writing for websites, developing a media release or using Photoshop to design a poster.
